Lexington 1967; admitted to the Kentucky bar in 1967; legislative assistant to
Senator Marlow Cook 1968-1970; deputy assistant United States Attorney
1974-1975; elected judge-executive of Jefferson County, Ky., 1978-1985; elected
as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1984; reelected in 1990, 1996,
2002, and again in 2008 for the term ending January 3, 2015; Republican party
whip (2003-2007); minority leader (2007-); chair, Select Committee on Ethics
