Opinion :
I don’t know to whom I’m writing this to, but I have to write to someone…. I was born into a military family my father served several tours in Vietnam; he was a 30 year man; his father a Peal Harbor vet. I can trace our military family history all the way back to the Civil war and further. I lived on military post, ate military food, and shared a bed with my sisters because there were only two rooms in the small post housing. My dad told me that I was born with a military spoon in my mouth, I was proud of that fact, we had to pick one gift for Christmas, and so we (my sisters and I) would sit and go though the sears catalog. Our patents always provided for us even on the poor military pay he received. My dad told us that we had to give back to this great country of ours. He lost his brother in Nam.
I served over 25 years, in the U.S Army enlisting in 1976 (10 Special Forces, and ending my service in 2003), My Son, followed in my foot steps he was a fireman before he came home and told me that he joined up for the U.S Army enlisting ( straight leg infantry) 2005. His mother served in the Army as well as a medic. We ended up divorcing, as you can tell the military runs deep in this family.
My son was born on a military post, Ft Bragg, NC, I walk in held him for a few minutes then I had to leave, my platoon sergeant comes in and informs me that “I’m not the only one to have a son, and we have to move out “the next time I saw him he was a few months older…. Such is the life of a soldier, one in which I volunteer for. This plays out many more times over the 15 years I had left. Missing birthdays, Christmas’s, and holidays and this is not counting pulling duty such as Staff duty, Guard Duty, Charge of Quarters, or training missions. All of which I knew what were my responsibilities, accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my men. I was loyal to those with whom I served seniors, peers and subordinates alike (still am). I took an oath to serve and protect the Constitution, neither to any party, nor any office or to any individual!! I did and will continue to do my duty, once a soldier always a soldier. We tend to forget that the Bill of Rights are the corner stone to the constitution, these cannot ever be change or taken away by any government, man, courts or congress. They have been given to us by our creator. If they try, then the people have the right to change that government as our founding fathers stated. Every Soldier, Marine, Airman and Sailor they know their duty to the constitution and would defend it and have defended it!!!
The reason I’m telling you this, I see and read what you are doing to this great land of ours and it breaks my heart. To read, and watch what you are doing to our Constitution, to our military, both to those in active duty and to those of us that are retried, to those that have left the service. You treat us like we are nothing but a number in a book, our vetoes don’t count… in some states, congress and the commander-in- chief wants to reduce our benefits’, all in the name of
Sharing the pain, and spreading the wealth. All of which is a great lie. I had men on food stamps, as we went on missions for our country, no hot water in the rooms … I see the same thing happing again. I will get my retirement at 60, I paid into social security when I was in the Army, I cannot live off my Army pay, I live in California one of the most repressive states in the Union ruled by one party. Yet the federal Government allows this state to rule in such a manner. Suppressing the constitution when ever they can. Yet they (congress) chose’s to do nothing. When an individual state stands up to congress or the commander-in-chief, they send the Department of Justice after them, just another form of tyranny. When it gets to the courts the people lose, due to the fact that the courts are over run with party hacks, which don’t follow the constitution, or they believe that it is a living document and needs to be update to be in step with the European Union, Wrong!!! That is why we left England, and fought the wars we did!!! We are Americans!! If they want to be Europeans, and live under their laws and their form of government then move!! We are a Republic not democracy
( “"[D]emocracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security, or the rights of property; and have, in general, been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths." --James Madison, Federalist No. 10, 1787 Get it right or go back to school !!
The military is being hit and hit hard; we will not stand for it. Too many of our brothers and sisters in arms have been lost to just sit by and let this country do this to us.
I have bleed, cried, and even laid my own son to rest, yes, he gave his all on June 21, 2007, he was with the 1st Cav in Baghdad, Iraq. He loved his country, his unit, and so much more. No one joins the military thinking they are going to go off to war and die. He had dreams of coming home, joining up with the local National Guard unit, buying a home, getting back with the local fire department and getting involved with a girl and having a family. He told me once in one of many phone conversations; “Dad, I’m not afraid to die, as long as we win, and I’m going forward” He told me that he once he got back into the wire, he cleaned his weapon, said his prays, visited the Chaplin, read the word, ate, work out then got ready for the next mission. That was my son. His follow soldiers informed me that he was always helping them, and willing to take the led, the first to go into the fight the last to leave. That was my son, and I know there are thousands of men and women like him in the military. So why is congress cutting them at the knees? Why is the commander-in-chief shooting them in the back?
I watch these protesters and think, yes you have the right to protest, to say the things you do, men and women have died and give up their lives for you to do so. But you don’t have to the right to take from me and my brothers and sisters what we have earned and paid into so congress and the commander- in –chief can spread the wealth you have not earned that right !!!.. We’ve earned it with our sweat, blood and tears’ asking nothing but what was promised. If we have to, we will do what our brothers did in the past when they marched on congress at the end of the Revolutionary war and demanding what is ours rightful l!!!
So take heed, we are watching you the American people, congress, and yes you Mr. Obama if you don’t do what is right under the Constitution and (Bill of Rights) you will have awaken an sleeping giant, as there are millions of active duty, reserves, national Guard, retried men and women ready and willing to do what is right under the Constitution!!! We all took an oath and we all live by that oath even though we are no longer in uniform. We are all ready and willing to march…!! We fear nothing. God bless America, and God bless the Republic!!
